When working with non-unified tags, the tags group appears rather far down my list of top level groups because I like having my groups in alphabetical sort order.
In the past I would rename the tags group to “-tags” and that would bring it to the top of the list. Renaming, however, is no longer possible.
Is there any work around that might keep the tags group at the top of the list?
Interestingly, I can, however, rename a non-unified Inbox to “-Inbox” to have it at the top of my list.
No, it’s not possible to rename the Tags group of a database.
Also, are you referring to the Navigate sidebar or the item list?
Sorry, I should have said that I would like tags always to appear at the top of the item list. In the navigate sidebar it works the way I would want and does just that. I just want to have it work the same way in the item list because I very often hide the sidebar. But if it can’t be done, it isn’t so important. I only wonder why it was possible before, and now it isn’t! Could it be a simple feature request to reintroduce the earlier ability?
As a PS, the reason I like the tags group to appear at the top of the item list is for when it is expanded. If “tabs” is a group in the lower middle of the top level group, then when expanded, the top level group is bisected by a block of tags. I always found that Devonthink looked most elegant when filters, the inbox and tabs could all show at the top of the top level items list. That is not entirely possible if there is an alphabetical sort order, which is my default, and which must be a fairly common usage.
But I guess if no-else ever had that thought, my use of DT must be different. It is too easy to assume everyone does things the same way, but I am always struck how DT allows such a multitude of choices, and how differently everyone therefore uses it! So hard to create a program that is optimised for every possible permutation!
