Terrible problem (Bug?) in DEVONthink Pro Office

I’ve come across a terrible problem in DEVONthink Pro Office Server:

  • I edit externally a file contained in a database (not an indexed one) ;
  • DEVONthink doesn’t notice the change…
  • thus it still displays the OLD version — cached, I suppose ;
  • and the serious problem is: it DOESN’t synchronize the modified file !

Quitting and relanching didn’t help. Going away — selecting another window or another database or another group, etc. — didn’t help.

It occured with different files (MS Word, MD) and different external editors (Ulysses, Typora, Microsoft Word).

Can you help me fix this ? Thanks in advance.

Below: screencap of the file info in DEVONthink sidebar and in the Finder:

Where’s your database located and which version of macOS do you use? Usually the documents should be automatically updated after receiving filesystem events from the OS, you can do this on your own too via File > Update Indexed Items.

  • It’s MacOS 11.3 (Big Sur).
  • All my databases are in a folder at the root of my Home directory: ~\Bases DEVON\, “protected” from iCloud or Dropbox — synchronization occurs via WebDAV, the repository being on a private NAS.
  • the files in question are inside a database, they aren’t in indexed folders.

File > Update Indexed Items can be applied nonetheless.

I couldn’t check yesterday, sorry. This morning, the problem isn’t reproducible. I’ll come back if it happens again.

Meanwhile, I take notice of the Update Indexed Items workaround. Thank you Christian.

Do you have any idea why the system would fail to raise a filesystem event or why DEVONthink would fail to receive it?

Unfortunately hard to tell, if this should happen again and/or if you should be able to reproduce this, then additional details would be highly appreciated - thanks!
