Text encoding in DevonThink

Hi, this is my first post in the forum, though I’ve been using DT for over a year!

I hope this isn’t a question that has been asked a million times before – I did a search of the forum and couldn’t find anything.

What text encoding does DT use on plain text files? When I export, it seems to be Western (Mac OS Roman), though I can’t be sure.

Is there any way of changing to UTF-8 or UTF-16?

Thanks

There’s no preference yet to specify the export encoding but we’ll add one to a future release. Currently DT is using the most efficient encoding (usually Mac OS Roman on western systems).

Thanks for the reply.

I’ve always been more inclined to use UTF-8 when creating new plain text files. Will there be an option in future to specify the encoding used by DT when creating new files (not just when they are exported out of DT)? As I build up a large database of plain text files, I’m concerned that they are future-proof. Mac OS Roman is a bit out of date now, isn’t it?

The internal encoding is of course UTF-16.

Great – thanks!
