I am using Devonagent Pro to download IEEE articles, but I find that the PDF scrolling is very sluggish, laggy and not smooth.
Is the PDF document still downloaded at the same time or a search active in the background? Or is the issue limited to certain PDF documents? E.g. https://download.devontechnologies.com/download/devonthink/3.9.8/DEVONthink%20Manual.pdf works absolutely fine over here.
As this is completely controlled by the WebKit & PDFkit, the macOS version might also be important.
I’m not quite sure what the reason is, but when I switched to single page mode instead of continuous mode, it worked well.
You can open any IEEE PDF webpage in DevonAgent (Opening the PDF with Devonthink3 webArchive has the same issue, but downloading it resolves the problem.), for example, An Information-Theoretic Framework to Map the Spatiotemporal Dynamics of the Scalp Electroencephalogram | IEEE Journals & Magazine | IEEE Xplore. The Single Page Continuous mode is very laggy.
My device is a MacBook Pro 2019 with an Intel chip. Both macOS and the software are up to date.
Others here are certainly more expert than I on this, but this symptom seems to suggest a “hand-shaking” issue somewhere between your PC and IEEE’s web server. Do you see the same when you view, without downloading, from another web site?
When I view PDFs from other websites such as arxiv and researchgate, without downloading them, I don’t experience the same lag or issue, so it seems specific to IEEE.
