Is it possible to try Devonsphere? It’s asking me for a code, but I was under the impression it would for a time before requiring a registration code.
I was able to install the trial without any problems. It did not ask for anything. Maybe you already have used your trial before and hence the software doesn’t allow it for the 2nd time ?
it’s possible I installed it years ago but never got around to trying it. Is Devonsphere going to be still relevant after DT 4 rolls out?
DEVONsphere Express is not a competitor with DEVONthink.
that’s good to know. I am a little bit confused about what the DT4 AI features do.
I also don’t have a clear idea of what Devonsphere does.
Read the Getting Started > AI Explained and AI in Practice section.
is that in the manual? ok I found the handbook
In DEVONthink’s Help menu and downloadable as an offline manual…
I actually just “discovered” it after Dt4 went out, so I hope not, as it nicely addressing the local search needs as well syncs with the upmost browser window.,
(And I have been using DT since v2 … ).
I would hope it will be actually updated to the UX/design/look of DT4 while keeping the functionality as it is.
I personally like the look and feel of it.
I think it reminds me DevonthinkPro office 2.x DT 3/4 has moved on with its UX.
But yeah - kind of vintage vibes , nothing against it it does its job super well
I don’t really know what it does.
It’s similar to macOS’ Spotlight.
Take any folder with key documents you care about , index it, and see if you can use the tool.
It can do two things:
- find things . Incl advanced queries (see help on NEAR operator as an example)
- Show files which are relevant to the current one you have open eg in preview
For example:
- find file which has 2025 but also tax in it, must be in same sentence
- find files relevant to 2025 tax report ie bills which have been referenced or tax regulations for that year (assuming all that is indexed see step 1)
It’s an always-available, menubar-based implementation of DT’s search and See Also features which operates on a single, permanently-open, invisible database populated from folders you select, with a unique additional feature of See Also functionality on the currently viewed web page.
