May I know how to export all files in a DTPO’s group to an external folder and re-indexed the group to that external folder? Basically, I want all files in that group to be synchronised with an external folder.
I tried using opt-cmd-E for export as the first step, but found that the command makes copies of locally resided files in a group to the external folder but the files remains as local files in DTPO. If I index that external folder I will end up with two sets of identical files in DTPO, one set being local in the original group and another set being indexed from the external folder.
Many ways to accomplish this I suppose, but here is my process.
Create the folder in the Finder*
Index the folder in DEVONthink
In DEVONthink, move all the documents that you now want indexed to this indexed folder/group
Select all the documents in the indexed folder/group, right-click, and choose 'Move to External Folder
Delete the original group in DEVONthink if no longer needed
The location of the folder in the Finder cannot be changed after the folder is indexed in DEVONthink or the link to the folder and its contents will be broken.
Thanks very much. I just build a dummy database and it works as you described. I also dig out some older post which include sync script to deconsolidate and consolidate the group so that whatever is added in DTPO will be sync to the external folder, too.
I’ve been using indexing method for a few years but have recently switched to import all my files into DTPO. The reason is that I found occasional tag synchronisation issues between DTPO and High Sierra. If I frequently re-name tags or re-arrange the level of tags within a tag-tree, sometimes the changes are not reflected in the finder. This creates an issue when I close DTPO and re-open it the next time - lots of old tags re-appear. I am just wondering if anyone experience the same issue?
Just to make myself clear, I am 110% happy with DTPO. Just wondering if there is something wrong with my setup of it’s just normal glitches between DTPO and High Sierra. As some experienced member has pointed out, I also need to rethink my method of tagging…
