Unable to sync to new machine

I have a new machine (MacBook Pro M4) and I am currently unable to sync my existing databases to it. I was syncing between the MacBook Air, my iPhone, and my iPad mini (all good then). Now I have my MacBook Pro and I can’t sync to it, although everything else syncs. I did remove the license from my MacBook Air and moved it to the MacBook Pro to fit the number of seats I have. Here’s the screenshot where I’m getting stuck. The inbox syncs fine, but the other two databases don’t. Any suggestions?

I’ve looked for this answer elsewhere in the forums but didn’t see anything that addresses this specifically.

According to the screenshot the sync location seems to be busy synchronizing (or importing?) the RSSfeeds database. Does it work afterwards?

I used the import function rather than the sync function. I just did that with the RSS feeds so that in case that was the wrong thing to do or it messed up, it was less risky than my main databases. Also the RSS databases so much smaller. The other ones are pretty big.

Is anything still shown in the Window > Activity panel? As soon as the RSS feeds database will be done, you should be able to import the other ones (assuming that they do not yet exist on the new computer).

Any advice on whether I should use the import button or the synchronize button? I had to import the RSS feeds, I couldn’t click on synchronize now because it was great out. When you first incorporate a new database into the software on the new machine, do you have to import it first rather than synchronizing? I was just a little confused about that. But maybe that’s all I need to do. Just wait for RSS to finish and then do the other ones.

Importing is required if the databases are not yet locally available on the new Mac. Depending on the speed of iCloud, your network and the size of the RSS feeds database this might require some time.

Okay, that makes sense and clarifies things. All set now – thank you!!

You’re welcome.

Does this not mean then that he would have two imported copies between the two Macs? I am trying to sync to Mac air from Mac mini but do not have the storage capability on the Mac air to store another copy of the whole database. I am trying to get it to work like DT2GO but not sure if that is doable. I see all of the databases on Mac air listed under remote but only “inbox” is listed under local and has a checkmark in the box.

Every device has its own copy of the database. You are not using one database on multiple machines. This is by design and has been this way for a very long time.

but do not have the storage capability on the Mac air to store another copy of the whole database.

Why? How big is your database?
Also, a database can be located on a connected external hard drive (and no, not a thumb drive). This is discussed in the Getting Started > Building Your Database > Database Location.
