Undo Automatic locking

I dont know how but all my files are now under smart rule Automatic locking…

any way to free them?

Did you add any triggers to the Automatic Locking smart rule? By default it’s only performed on demand.

Appearance means nothing more than the files match the criteria. And they can’t be freed because they’re not captured. This is no different than looking at a book about whales doesn’t require the actual whales to be saved from the pictures in it

Look at the criteria…

Any unlocked document or RSS article in any open database you’ve read but not modified in the last month would be locked if another event trigger was added. I’m sure there you have many such documents. You can also disable the actions to make the smart rule appear less “active”.

I dont think so…

any way to get rid of it?

You can remove any smart rule. Right-click it and choose “Remove”. Or “Disable Actions” to turn it off for now without removing it.

thanks

@BLUEFROG This smart rule is described briefly in Windows > Sidebar: Navigate > Smart Rules.

“This requires user intervention” seems a bit misleading/unclear when the only default trigger is On Demand.

How is it misleading when it does require user intervention to enable it?

I read it as: “This happens unless the user intervenes.”

It might just be a hole in my vocabulary, since english isn’t my native language?

I thought intervene/intervention was mostly used to describe interrupting, stopping or altering something that is either already in motion or about to be. I usually wouldn’t assume what needs intervention is a state of inaction?

Now is clearer to me, but…

if I erase the smart rule to “free” all my files and the I load again the same smart rule what happens?

In other words there is no way to undo a smart rule?

To undo what specifically?

to return at the state before the performed smart rule…

in this case Unlock the files

But are they locked? The items listed in the smart rule are not locked. I can’t tell if you understand that?

A smart rule is basically a smart group (i.e. a saved search) + a list of actions to run on matching items when the specified triggers occur.

When you select a rule in the sidebar, you see the items that actions will apply to, when the rule is triggered.

Here, the only trigger is On Demand. Nothing happens unless you manually activate it.

thanks but unfortunally I triggered it…

I don’t think you can undo triggering a smart rule. But as this one is pretty simple, you could just invert it and trigger it again?

  • Change the criteria to Marked: as Locked
  • Change the action to Mark: as Unlocked.

I will, thanks
