Use cmd-F for global search, instead of using both cmd-F and ctrl-U for searching within document

Hello, I have a trivial feature request.

DEVONthink has two primary search fields: one is in the toolbar at the top, the other in the inspector on the right side. For the convenience of this post, I’ll address the former as Global Search and the latter Local Seach.

I noticed that currently:

  • There’s no default keyboard shortcut for invoking a Global Search
  • Both cmd-F and ctrl-U are assigned to Local Search

I’m fairly certain that those are the default behaviors and cannot be customized. IMHO it would make much more sense to assign one of the two keyboard shortcuts to Global Search. I would prefer using cmd-F for Global and ctrl-U for Local, but maybe that’s just me.

Thank you in advance!

Option-Command-F initiates the toolbar search field.

Oh wow  I should’ve tested that one. Thanks Jim!

I’m still a bit curious as to the decision behind assigning both shortcuts for Local Search though. Is it for convenience’s sake?

Be it as it may, you can easily change it using macOS and/or Keyboard Maestro.

I’m still on the fence about KM. As for changing shortcuts using macOS’ built in preferences, I admittedly never used it and at this point have almost forgotten about its existence. Thanks for reminding me about it!
