Use existing tags when sharing items with DTTG4

When I add a screenshot or a bookmark to DTTG4 using the iOS share feature, I can assign tags. Is it possible for existing tags to be suggested when I type the first letters, or does the share screen not have access to DTTG4 tags?

After 3 characters have been typed into the tag field you should see a + button which when tapped will show matching tags.

When creating a new item from the system share sheet (this is important), this autocomplete works on my iPhone, but not iPad (iPad Pro “M1”, 12.9-inch)

(When creating a new item from within the DTT4 app itself, this autocomplete works on my both iPhone and iPad)

This was discussed multiple times over a period of months on the TestFlight beta period but the only outcome from DT was “could not replicate here”. Hopefully more people reporting this now DTTG4 is in production will mean this may be fixed

I do not see such a plus button here, neither on my iphone nor on my ipad. I am using DTTP 4.0.1 and iOS 26.1. Reboot did not help. I am talking about the share button in safari. Behavior doesn’t change if dttp is running or not while sharing. any idea why it does not work for me on none of my devices?

(Additional note not relevant to this thread: in the German version of the DTTG sharing tool, the “Fertig” (=done) button is hidden in the … submenu, whereas it can be directly seen in your screenshot on the upper right. I assume this is due to the longer word Abbrechen instead of Cancel so there isn’t enough space on a iphone 15 Pro for the Fertig/Done button when running the German version of iOS/DTTG. I have already reported this to the devontech support, so I am confident that they will fix it in a future update. I am just mentioning it here, as maybe the showing of matching tags also depends on the localization/language of DTTP)

can anyone else reproduce my problem that tag matching (or the plus symbol for tag matching) is not shown?

I have this problem too.

My regular workflow is to share articles into DTTG from Instapaper or Feedly. With version 3, after typing a few letters matching an existing tag, a list of tags came up. With DTTG 4, I’m not seeing any visual prompt (including a + button) to match tags in the share sheet.

@BLUEFROG maybe you have any idea if we are doing anything wrong? or can you reproduce this?

Does this happen when clipping to a particular database or inbox, or does it happen for every database?

do I need to fully download a database so that the tag matching is available? if I share to the global inbox, the tags of other databases are not shown, I assume? Maybe this was my mistake.

I managed to reproduce the issue and I have added a fix for the next update. Please let me know if it works for you.

may I ask, what should be the normal behavior? if I share to the global inbox, should tags of all databases be shown as possible matches?

Currently tags completions will only show matches from the selected destination DB. Matching tags for any DB will be included in a future update.

Thanks @aedwards. After reading this thread I’ve discovered that if I share into the inbox of the relevant database (i.e. not the global inbox) then existing tags are suggested. Although I think that’s a change since version 3, the workflow works for me.
