Want to upgrade to Pro, but license details are unclear to me

I got a DT4 Standard license valid until 17 Nov 2026.

I’m considering to upgrade to DT4 Pro, so that I can get DTTG4 full features enabled and can benefit from of the Pro version features.

On my Account page I can see that I get a discount for the upgrade, but the details of the license are unclear to me, no matter how many times I read it.

Please note that purchasing an upgrade, e.g., to a higher edition, will trade your existing license for the discount and your old license will be deactivated in three months time. The upgrade from DEVONthink 3 to DEVONthink 4 is, technically, only an extension of your existing license and so the license will, of course, neither be traded in nor will its license code change.

What I would like to know is: if I purchase the upgrade (99$), will my license for Pro+DTTG4 start a cycle from the date I upgrade (ex: today, 17 July 20206) or will it expires based on my existing license, on 17 Nov 2026?

In the latter case, I would be spending 99$ and will have to renew the license in about 4 months.

Just trying to get this right, as I don’t seem to figure it out from reading the info anywhere.

Actually, it will start a new cycle on the day you purchase. You’d lose the four month you had left on your DEVONthink Standard license and start with a fresh year of updates.

I actually upgraded from Standard to Pro and got a new license.

What I can’t find as info, is how “turn” DT Standard into DT Pro. I assumed it would be by switching license in the license pop-up, but it seems locked in my DT Standard.

Is it based on having to download a fresh new app, rather than “unlocking” Pro-features

Just remove the existing license in DEVONthink > License… and enter the new one afterwards.
