What happened to web clipper extension for Chrome?

TL;DR

When you try to install the web clipper for Chrome extension form the DT Extra page, you get an error in the Google extension store telling the extension cannot be found.

Will the web clipper extension still be supported by DT?

So,
The Safari browser is great, but my experience is that a chromium based browser gets wider support on the web especially when dealing with content behind authentication walls such as paywalls. DevonAgent Pro used as a browser is good but does not support extensions that I use.
My favourite browser for many years is Brave, but Brave got more and more pages that didn’t load or had issues. I try to stay away from Google Chrome as much as possible.

Arc browser from The Browser Company is a new kid on the block that follows a different design paradigma. Thing is: bookmarks are kind of from the past in Arc. Chrome extensions work.

Unfortunately, when I search for the DT web clipper extension in the Google Chrome store, I don’t find any. When I try to install it from the DT extra page, I get a Google Chrome store error that that page isn’t found.

I use the DT web clipper extension almost daily. It would be an extreme loss if that extension cease to exist.

Welcome to DEVONthink and this forum.

I just tried from DEVONtechnologies | Handbooks and Extras to first un-install and re-install, with success. My hunch something on your computer interfering with the download, or something.

AFAIK, Google changed the infrastructure for web extensions (to bolster their ad business and stop ad blockers, btw). So, extensions had to adjust to that. And AFAIK, DT did that:

Perhaps the new version is still waiting for approval?

Frankly, don’t know. I don’t use Chrome with DEVONthink. All I know is, responding to the OP, that the extension linked from DEVONTechnologies web site seems be accessible.

All I can say from here is try, I guess.

With Chrome 131 I get the same error as the OP (the extension can’t be found in the Google Chrome store). Then I uninstalled the extension and tried to re-install from the DT page – same error.

Edit Interestingly, the link opens ok in Firefox. So, The message "can’t be found in the Google Chrome store) is misleading, I think.

Which version of Chrome are you using?

Version 131.0.6778.265 (Official Build) (x86_64), but as I went to that About screen, Chrome started doing an automatic update. After relaunch it became Version 132.0.6834.84 (Official Build) (x86_64). The “remove” then “add” worked as before. I don’t have any VPN currently running.

First of all, thank you for all the comments here. I solved it.
Due to the fact that we have a few teens with ADHD here in our family, I indeed have some restricted filters in operation on our network.

Based on what rmschne wrote, I still did not see any blocked messages on our firewall.

What did the trick for me is to SIGN in to the Google extension store. Then, when I then search for clip to DEVONthink OR click the install button on the DT Handbooks and Extras page, I found the extension page and was able to install the clip to DEVONthink extension.

Thanks to all.

Glad to hear it’s installed and working. We submitted an update to the extension at the end of December.

Same here. What a mess – why do they require me to log into google to install an extension? (Rhetorical question).

Strange. I don’t remember this being necessary when I tried in the linked post thread.

The blog post was from July of last year. Google had been busily changes many things behind the scenes, it seems.

Well, nicely you can just sign back out and the extension still works :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry, I meant thread – the one chrillek linked above. (I don’t see any blog post linked)

Back then in December I tried downloading chrome and installed the plugin without any trouble – or login needed, as far as I recall. But that was before you updated the extension.

FYI, when I did my two tests, my Google Chrome was previously logged in. Didn’t think that had anything to do with it. Interesting that it does.
