Regarding the syncing option “Synchronise content of indexed items”: The tutorial states

Indexed items will always appear on all participating devices but if you uncheck this option the other devices will not be able to show their content.

My question: does the possibility of syncing the content of index items apply only to the items in the database or also to indexed files and folders outside of devonthink?

“Items in the database” sounds like you’re talking about imported files.

Yes, I mean imported files vs files that are indexed but not imported. Both are indexed but I’m not sure if both are synced.
