Widgets. Any plans?

Actually, at least here is some development. Maybe not the development we want to see but it’s not as abandoned as Apple’s other automation efforts. And if you have ideas what is missing in DEVONthink To Go’s Shortcuts support, let us know. We’re always listening, even if we don’t implement everything.

As for Pages: I personally don’t use it much and am usually satisfied with its feature set. Just with the temporary removal of mail merge they nearly killed me as it was just in a time when I really needed mail merge for my wife’s club info letter.

I must admit that I stopped looking about two years ago. At that time, they were still not able to limit local search results (i.e. in Maps) to a given radius. Ridiculous, and a PITA to work around.

I know. I’m not using it that much on i*OS, mostly on the Mac. And there I can automate whatever I want just fine

Yes, they re-implemented mail merge (kind of) now. And that one was actually not too complicated (and fun) to write in JXA.
But I still think that word processors and spread sheets should be easier programmable than Numbers and Pages are now.

I think what would be great would be to add similar Shortcuts support for DT3 as you have for DTTG.

Yes, I understand that DT3 has scripting capabilities. It’s one of the best features of DT3 and I have numerous scripts I use regularly.

But I don’t think I am alone in saying that though I can and have written and modified both Applescript and JXA, since coding is not my main job it’s a lot quicker for me to get something up and running in Shortcuts than to write a script. And while SmartRules are amazing there are lots of things that could be done with Shortcuts but not with a SmartRule.

I’m not on Sonoma yet, though I am very excited for desktop widgets (work advised us not to install due to it seemingly having a lot more compatibility issues than previous OS updates). Having said that, I was very excited for iOS widgets, then a month ago I was excited for iPadOS widgets, and the end result has been…. Not much change to my usage.

I like widgets as an idea, and have also several times thought “I wish X app supported widgets”, but in reality I’m really not using widgets. They’re basically dead space on my screen, as I rarely look at them. Ironically the only one I did look at properly is BusyCal and it’s not been working properly since the OS upgrade!

I like Shortcuts and haven’t found DTTG lacking for that yet. I’ve come up against a limitation in the number/size of files it can handle, but that is an OS limitation not one imposed by DTTG. So all in all I am happy, until the next shiny thing comes along :grimacing:

I wish there were dedicated widgets for DTTG (don’t really use Mac). I acknowledge that almost everything I want a widget for I could make a shortcut for, but the idea of widgets (as essentially premade default shortcuts I don’t have to screw around with to make) is so enticing.
