"WikiLinks: Names and Aliases" not working in multimarkdown citations

Hi there,

I recently enabled the “Names and Aliases” checkbox in DEVONthink Settings > WikiLinks. While this feature works as expected everywhere else I’ve tested so far, I noticed some quirks when using it within multimarkdown citations. Here’s a quick example:

In this example,

  • Expected behavior: when I was typing “Fancy Document Title” in the body or footnote, as soon as I typed the last letter “e”, the names “Fancy Document Title” instantly became linked both in the source view (left) and the preview view (right).
  • Unexpected behavior: when I did the same in the citation, even after I finished typing the name “Fancy Document Title”, the name did not become linked in either views. However, if I close this test document and reopen it, the name would become a link in the source view (and would work when clicked) but not in the preview view, as shown in the screenshot.

This is not a big issue for me since I can still use the links in the source view after all. I don’t know if this is a bug in multimarkdown/DEVONthink, but I’d love to see the feature work perfectly in citations too if possible.

Thank you!

While I can confirm the behavior here, it’s unclear if it’s MultMarkdown or not, but it’s also not something natively supported by it. WikiLinks are a DT function, not part of Markdown.

Using square bracket syntax also doesn’t work.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yes, I forgot to mention that double square brackets didn’t work for me either. I’m aware that WikiLinks is not part of multimarkdown’s specs, but since this DT function works elsewhere (main body, footnotes, etc.) in a markdown document, I was hoping it would be technically feasible to make it work in citations too.

That’s up to development to assess. And you’re welcome.
