Downloaded WordService from Devon; computer shows app is downloaded. But “Insert File Path” is not showing as an option under WordService. I use MAC OS 15. How can get “Insert File Path” as a usable option?
Welcome @vakeris
What do you have selected? WordService functions with a text selection and that command specifically with a POSIX path.
Also, I’d recommend you give WordService Full Disk Access in System Settings > Privacy & Security so it can quietly build the file listing without annoying macOS prompts.
Thanks for the ideas. I tried giving full disk access as you suggested but WordService did not show up as an app that could be given access. That tells me WordService didn’t get installed correctly/completely. When I click on it in my list of installed apps, it appears to be there. Any suggestions?
Full Disk Access just avoids annoying macOS warnings like 'Do you want WordService to access your Desktop folder?"
You only need to launch WordService once and its services are available. But it’s also a text service so you need text selected to use it. And you need to have a POSIX path selected for it to work, e.g., ~/desktop.
What is a POSIX path?
It’s a UNIX file path, per my example: ~/desktop and /Users/vakeris/desktop are both examples of POSIX paths.
I’m guessing you’re misdunderstanding what the WordService command does.
You probably are right. I actually understand very little about my computer and its programs. I just follow the instructions.
As to WordService: I understood the app would enable me to have the path to a document printed at the bottom of the document automatically. If that is not the way it works, then it won’t be much use to me.
Ahh, no that’s not what WordService is for.
Look at the print settings in the application in which you’re printing. It may have an option for including header or footer information.
