XMenu hanging with macOS 15.6

Long-time user of XMenu but the most recent macOS update appears to have done something to it. Most of the time it works fine but periodically the app goes to Not Responding and needs to be force quit. I had never seen this with other macOS versions.

Welcome @dgrenier9

  • Are you using the User-Defined (or Custom) menu item?
    • If so, do you have aliases to folders in it?
      • If so, are those pointing to external drives or networked volumes?

I normally use the user-defined menu with aliases to apps, folders, websites. The Custom folder also has actual folders containing aliases elsewhere. None point to external or network volumes.

It seems to consistently get stuck trying to open a file, referenced by an alias, associated with a particular app. It even locks up when using the Documents menu to navigate to the same file.

The file opens with no problem if I use XMenu to open the enclosing folder (which has 2 aliases to folders on Dropbox) and then double-click on the file. I removed those 2 aliases but the problem remains. I’m able to open other files associated with that same app and another file with a different app so it doesn’t seem to have a problem with the folder, just that particular file.

I deleted the folder, created a new one, recreated the aliases but I still have the problem with the one file.

deleted the alias to that file and created another, same problem. Very strange.

Would an Activity Monitor sample help?

Yes a process sample could be useful. Open a support ticket and attach it.
