Auto Open Home Screen Upon Launch

The DEVONthink To Go Manual v3.89 states the following:

The database or home screen is the first screen you see when you open DEVONthink To Go or navigate back to the top level of the application.

This is not happening in my experience. The best I can hope for is the app showing within an open database when using the shortcut titled, How to Quickly Launch DEVONthink To Go.

What am I doing wrong?

That sentence is defining the databases or home screen of DEVONthink To Go. Also referred to as the sidebar, especially on an iPad. DEVONthink To Go should open to the last location you were viewing when you quit the app.

It works as you describe on my iPad. However, I would like DEVONthink To Go to open the home screen regardless of where in the app I’m working when I close it.

The article you wrote in Devonian Times titled, How to Quickly Launch DEVONthink To Go, describes using a shortcut to open the app at a specific location. The home screen appears to be the only location without a link to use in the shortcut. Would it be possible to assign a link to the home screen for those of us who use the shortcut in order to open the home screen each time the app is opened?

I don’t understand. You can always quickly go to the home screen by long-pressing the back-arrow and selecting “DEVONthink”. Perhaps you’re not aware?

I know I read that in the manual, but it somehow slipped my mind. Thank you for bringing it to my attention again.

I still don’t understand the line from the manual I mentioned in my original post, The database or home screen is the first screen you see when you open DEVONthink To Go. The home screen is not the first screen I see when I open DTTG unless it was on that screen when the app was previously closed.

What exactly are you referring to? Returning to the OS home screen doesn’t actually quit/close an app.

Apple designed its iPhone software so that you don’t have to close an app when you’re not using it, since most apps that are not active remain in a suspended state and don’t use up any resources or eat up battery

(How to Close iPhone Apps - MacRumors)

Open = when you start the application, meaning it’s not already running. So: the very first time you launch it, or if it was quit—either manually or by the operating system’s resource management. (My iPhone is pretty old, so that happens often for me)

If it’s already running, you’re not opening it, but rather switching to it.

Until recently I moved away from DTTG in iOS, leaving it in the app switcher. I tried completely closing the app to see whether opening it from scratch would bring up the home screen which has not happened.

There isn’t a link as there’s nothing at all to link to. The databases screen isn’t an object you can link to.
This is the only request I can recall.

Many apps default to opening the home screen upon starting. The only reason I requested a link to use in the shortcut is I thought it would be a simple workaround.

Would an option in Settings work?

That’s something mobile development would need to assess. The request is noted, with no promises.

Thank you, Jim…

You’re welcome.

Strange. In that case I don’t know, sorry. I can only say thats not what I experience.
