Hi
I understand that the only way to add a PDF on iPad is to copy it on the Finder app.
Nevertheless, it seems that even if i enabled DEVONthink for Finder, I still cannot do it as when trying to copy it, I get the following error:
Thanks for the report!
Adding a PDF to DEVONthink To Go doesnât have to be done via the Files.app. In fact, Iâd say thatâs the less recommended option. Sharing to DEVONthink To Go from the Share menu is the typical method.
What version of DEVONthink To Go and iOS are you running?
This is typically a memory problem that might or might not go away after a device restart, killing the Files app or DEVONthink To Go, etc. Unfortunately, Apple doesnât give us anything else to diagnose this except for âit doesnât workâ.
I have:
- iPadOS 18.5
- DEVONthink To Go 3 latest
Share menu only allows âClipâ option
I have the problem all the time irrespective of reboot or not.
And it only occurs for DT To Go and only in the situation described.
From what application is the PDF originating, e.g., Safari, PDF Expert,
Multiple but letâs consider Safari, Firefox
Might be useful to give a URL for the PDF you are trying to save (or create?) and the exact steps you go thru so that perhaps we can try to replicate.
but please note that the same problem is present if the pdf file is saved locally on the iPad or Dropbox
That link does not point to a PDF file. Exactly what steps do you do to make a PDF then attempt to save?
Edit : when i press the âdownload pdfâ button at bottom and pick DEVONthink ToGo i get all pages saved. I can also âprintâ a PDF of the web page and save same place. All works to my Dropbox also.
Edit 2: iOS 18.5 with Safari and DEVONthink ToGo both latest.
Same here â works as advertised. @rparvu: do you have any browser extensions installed?
I forgot to mention: navigate to the bottom of the webpage, click âDowload PDFâ
No and the same problem is for Safari also.
Also, if I have a PDF anywhere in Files except the DEVONthink location, I have no way to add it to DEVONthink To Go.
That works here too. In Files, navigate to where there is a PDF then press the share icon and put into DEVONthink ToGo, Dropbox, or wherever available.
Direct via the Clip To DEVONthink extension
- Navigate to this URL.
- Click the Download PDF link, opening a new page with the PDF loaded.
- Click the Share button.
- Tap the DEVONthink icon.5.
- Choose the database and set any options, if needed. I did nothing but choose a database.
- The PDF is imported in DEVONthink To Go as expected.
Through Files.app
- Navigate to this URL.
- Click the Download PDF link, opening a new page with the PDF loaded.
- Click the Share button.
- Tap the Save To Files option.
- Select DEVONthink in the Files.app sidebar.
- Navigate to the Global Inbox database and save the document.
- The PDF is imported in DEVONthink To Go as expected.
Iâd say at least 50% of my PDFs (maybe 10-20 a week get saved) are saved via my iPad using the share function and I never have problems, so Iâm inclined to think thereâs something going on locally. The DT icon is the second one on my share list in fact, thatâs how important it is!
I almost never use the Files app for this, it takes more time and just isnât necessary. Even if youâre in the Files app and looking for something, it feels more intuitive to just open the file and use the share command to send it to DTTG.
Yes, I am aware of both methods but none work:
a. when I get to step 4, I only have the option Clip to Devonthink as I showed below and after I click OK ⌠nothing gets saved into the DTG app
b. in this case I get the helper error all the time
Basically, I am left without any option to load PDF files into DTG
In DEVONthink To Go, select ? > Contact Us to start a support ticket.
What are the settings for âPrivacy and securityâ preferences regarding DT? Especially, the âFiles and Foldersâ subsettings?
And thereâs also a setting in DTâs preferences for âPaste from other appsâ â what is it set to?
