DEVONthink Mail plugin under macOS Sonoma

It will be in the next release.

Can someone explain how mail archiving seems to be working without the Mail plugin? I am literally doing that right now in Sonoma latest dev beta on the latest DT and it appears to be working. Even got the standard message of how many emails were already imported that it skipped.

Two different things. Mail plugin operates within the Mail app. Importing doesn’t.

Your response seems to imply I don’t know how to read buttons :joy: Yes, I did in fact click the Archive Mailbox button.

Your question had nothing to do with buttons. You explicitly asked someone to explain ā€œhow archiving seems to be working [in macOS Sonoma] without the Mail pluginā€. I explained how. The Mail app and the DEVONthink Mail plugin are not involved in the processing for the mail archiving feature; plain and simple.

If the explanation is experienced as an insult to you, then I think there is little else one can do to help.

The Mail plug-in just adds two menu items & shortcuts to Apple Mail and also speeds up importing/archiving. But View > Sidebar > Import works also without the plug-in. Drag & drop also doesn’t need the plug-in just like scripts (for the menu extra or rules).

You are absolutely correct and apologies for the snark. As noted in another thread it’s been a rough couple of months for me so a bit on edge. That however is not your problem.

I totally misunderstood the reason for the Mail plugin. I always thought it was absolutely required for archiving to work. I am very glad to now know that is is not! Generally only use Apple Mail for archiving my email so the loss of this plugin for me personally is not an issue (aside from some performance gains I suppose).

Seems as if you guys are in good company. Albeit there are ISVs that have their sole business model under threat with Apple’s move. See here:

I’ll wait for them to be ready until I move to Sonoma.
Happy Sunday!

hi @Turtleboy , I have the same issue wiht the drag and drop fonction in mail plug in …and DVTK have a full disk access…
Do you solve it?

Do you use the latest version 3.9.3? What exactly did you drag and where did you drop it?

Hi @cgrunenberg , yes I use the 3.9.3,
I drag from my new message mail box from Apple Mail to Inbox of the global Inbox

And is DEVONthink3 allowed to automate Mail and does it have full disk access?

ā€œDEVONthink3 allowed to automate Mailā€ : How you manage it?

See System Settings > Security & Privacy

Ha OK, yes it’s done… I open a support ticket : #634714

I have both options enabled, and I am also unable to drag and drop from Apple Mail to the dock icon. I’ve filed a bug report.

Drag & drop to the Dock icon isn’t possible (and never was as that’s controlled by the Dock & Mail and DEVONthink doesn’t receive all the necessary information), therefore you have to drop to the sidebar or the item list of main windows or to the Sorter.

I was wondering if it would be possible to develop a mail extension to recreate this functionality. The developers at MailButler have managed to retain much of their app’s functionality despite moving from plug-in to extension.

No. Mail extensions are very limited in functionality.

That’s a pity.
I wonder how the MailButler folk have done what they have.
