Mailbutler is just doing things within the confines of Apple Mail. It’s not communicating with external applications.
I just upgraded to MacOS Sonoma and experienced the same drag and drop problem from mail to sorter that @BillW and @Fifof describe.
It is a bug but I fixed by disabling and then re-enabling the two Privacy settings mentioned:
- Full Disk Access for DevonThink
- Automation: Allow DevonThink to automate Mail
While we have been suggesting people check those things, it hasn’t been prescriptive on our parts. Can anyone else confirm @leehammond’s experience?
Can I just clarify do the scripts for adding attachment/message or both depend on the mail bundle being installed in apple mail. I have just upgraded to sonoma and find that the scripts to save a message to DT work fine but for attachments they dont… Thanks
Scripts don’t require the plug-in. Did you enable full disk access for DEVONthink 3?
I did multiple times and it didn’t work. Restarted computer now works!! Thanks
I can’t confirm it. I upgraded to Sonoma earlier this week and miss the extension. But I can’t drag and drop. I enabled both Automation and Full Disk Access but no luck. After reading the post I disabled both and restarted DT the enabled both and restarted DT. But drag and drop still doesn’t work. At least I can drag and drop to the Inbox Folder in my Finder sidebar.
Is there a crossed pencil icon to the right of the database’s name?
What exactly did you drag and where did you drop it? E.g. you can’t drag & drop emails to the Dock icon.
I dragged an email message from Mail to the Global Inbox in DT. Didn’t work.
I dragged the same email from Mail to the (DT) Inbox in my Finder sidebar and that worked. Same functionality so it is a suitable workaround.
Log shows:
2023-11-27, 09:12:21: Apple Mail Import of 2 messages failed.
Which version of Sonoma do you use?
Sonoma 14.1.1 (23B81)
Does logging out & in again or rebooting the computer make a difference? Scripting is not that reliable on Sonoma unfortunately but required for this operation.
I think Apple has broken things again.
Please start a support ticket. In the Finder, press Command-Shift-G and paste: ~/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink 3 . Please attach the Console.log to your ticket.
Done.
Drag and Drop with Mac Emails Works Again!
Dear DevonThink Friends,
I have been using DevonThink personally and professionally since 2006 and consider it my external brain.
I was very disappointed when I realized that with Sonoma I could no longer drag and drop Mac Mail emails into DT3 folders. Given the way people were commenting on this thread, it sounded like it would never work again.
Then yesterday, I tried the drag and drop and it worked, just like before. And continues to work.
I’m surprised that this good news is not mentioned anywhere on this forum. (Though perhaps I am not understanding something important.)
I am using Sonoma 14.2.1 on a 2018 Mac Mini.
My appreciation to the many helpful Devon Technologies staff and DevonThink users on this forum.
Glad to hear it’s working for you now!
Yes, for the first time in many months, it is working again. Nice! Although, it forced me to create some new workflows, some of which will stick! Sometimes there is a blessing in adversity!
I can confirm that this work around works. Thank you @leehammond
Drag and Drop has not worked for me for the last 4-6 months.
macOS Sonoma 14.5 / DT3Pro 3.9.6
