DEVONthink To Go 4 License question

From what we have seen so far, retrying after the crash should lead to a working registration.

Only one iOS seat should be taken by your device even if you try to register multiple times (that includes crashes). Even if that isn’t the case (we will investigate that as well), you can try at least a couple of times as you have five iOS seats included in your Pro license.

You can then remove seats from your costumer account after five days (same as with Mac seats).

Or wait until we issue a fix in DEVONthink To Go 4.0.1

When I signed in did not even see that I had a license (which I do) tried restart, pull to refresh nothing. I then signed out, restarted the app , signed in again and now saw I had a license and hit the check mark and all is well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I then installed it on my iPad and it went smoothly no issues at all

I also have the licence problem; support ticket #928781

Seat used, but no licence

I’ll try again when 4.01 is released

Until then, I’m using the monthly subscription; first month free

Same here. App keeps crashing after registration. Tried it now several times and even reinstalled the app. At least UI seems nice…

So that means that for that time, the “DTTG license” is separated from the DT license and will be updated separately?

And on the license webpage it doesn’t show my Phone.

And in the license section in DTTG, the information seems to be different from what I saw in other screenshots here.

Edit: Just had a look into the other screenshot here. I guess it’s because there is an active DT license

Your previous one time purchase has activated DEVONthink To Go 4 until the end of 2026. This is all done via the AppStore transaction and therefore completely separate from your account.

So yes, it won’t show in your account.

After the time is up, To Go will remind you that the app is no longer activated. It won’t automatically turn into an subscription or similar. You will then have the choice between AppStore subscription or using your Mac license.

Suggestion for V3 users who made a one-time payment: keep DTTG 3 installed, THEN install DTTG 4 and open it. It’ll then recognize your v3 purchase and activate.

If that step was listed in the announcement, I glossed over it. Since I had been using the v4 TestFlight, I didn’t have v3 installed at all.

We mentioned it here on the Upgrader’s Guide page.

It did not work for me. The only way was to pay the $20.00.

Ah hah! Thanks @cwc790411. After reading the blog post I was confused as my phone and iPad remained unregistered after logging in. Came to the forums to see if I could find anything before submitting a support request. I didn’t even think to try clicking the checkmark. Both mobile devices registered just fine for me. Congrats to the Devontech team.

My installation went through quite smoothly, despite one crashed. After restart, it works well. Glad to know that DR pro has 5 seats free of DTTG. Congratulations on this release.

I was a bit quick in getting DEVONthink To Go and did not see that license fee was included in my DT4 license and therefore paid for the license through the AppStore. How do I remove this purchase so I can register the license through my DT4 account.

The first month of the subscription is a free trial month. Simply cancel the subscription and wait for it to expire. Then register DEVONthink To Go with your DEVONthink for Mac license.

I also did not realise that I have to click the check mark, after registration. Thought something gone wrong.

I made the mistake of signing up to pay the new licence fee even though I have DTTG 3 licence through to Aug 26 and am a DT Pro user - I have cancelled the new app store subscription but that still remains my only option - I have redownloaded DTTG 3, restarted the iPad and updated to yesterdays 4.0.1 update but nothing seems to work - do I just accept I have done something wrong and pay the new subscription?

When you have cancelled the new subscription it remains active until the free month runs out. When it expires, with some luck, DEVONthink To Go 4 should pick up the legacy subscription. If not, let us know.

I have a DT3 Mac Standard license. I could upgrade it to the DT4 Pro version (for 99 dollars). That would include DTTG4. What happens when the one-year update period for DT4 Pro expires? I assume the DTTG4 license then expires as well, correct?

Apart from that: I was initially critical of the pricing model, but I think 20 dollars is reasonable - especially considering the very fair grace period (even though I no longer fall under it) and the bundling with the Pro version.
