DT4 - Devonthink 4 version?

But 4 is installed on the same account as 3?

I’ll PM you.

@BLUEFROG please help me understand.

On my account page, I see my license is set to expire on April 2025, and it says DEVONthink Pro for 99,99$.
If I click on Extend, the cart says “DEVONthink Pro 4 (Extension)”.
I suppose that if I checkout I get the DT4 license, but the software is still in beta.
So can I pay now and wait for the official version, that it’s supposed to be more bugs free?
And…so it will be 99,99 each year to upgrade (if I want to, of course)?

Thank you, and eager to see the new version of such a great piece of software!

Yes, you could pay now and wait but you don’t have to pay now… or use the beta.
Check out the information on this page…

And thanks for the kind words!

So NO discount for 3V users? nor early buyers

I understand what I did wrong - fixed it.
But the settings were not ported…

CORRECTION: I opened v3 and v4 side by side, started clicking the settings tabs and it did update most v4 settings to v3’s. A few settings were not ported, but not significat, and sure, v4 settings is much more comprehensive and rationalized. Great Job!

$100 a year ! damnnnnn thats a steep

Hmm…
100/12 = 8.33 (amortized cost)
Netflix, Amazon Prime, Spotify, Hulu, ESPN+, ………… all the same or more expensive.

  • No, there’s no early buyer’s discount.
  • Yes, there certainly is a discount for current version 3 licensees. You would see the price if you logged into your account and pressed the Extend button for your license.

but isn’t the $100 a discount for 3V ?

Extending a Pro license is $99. That is a discount compared to purchasing a new license for $199. And it covers all updates, which includes additions, improvements, and fixes for a year. Actually more since the period includes the beta phase.

That’s what I thought.

I think you guys should review and adjust somethings. If a user has one seat(uses DEVONthink for just one computer) should get lower discount. Some of us just use one device(one seat)

Your idea noted but the pricing, in place for almost 6 years now, serves the majority of our userbase. Most have two Macs, often a desktop and a laptop. But the two seats also allow for future flexibility with no added expense. Life and circumstances change. We’ve had many newlyweds, colleauges, parents, etc. who suddenly have a second Mac in the situation. They are already covered by the unused seat.

I understand! but when life changes there is always an option to add extra seats for those who need them. I have never used my second seat, it’s a waste.

OR keep it the way it is BUT the second seat should be extended to the iOS version. You can EITHER use your second seat for iOS or for another computer. Hope you pass this message along to the big guy. Thanks.

Big guy here. Just to second what @BLUEFROG already pointed out: Our licenses and their prices are calculated with the mentioned configuration in mind, the configuration that more than 90% of our users use: one desktop Mac, one mobile computer. We could have calculated our prices differently, like for three Macs, or one, but we opted for this model as it is the one that serves the majority of our users. We are sorry that it doesn’t perfectly suit you, but we always try to keep our broad user base in mind. And so far it worked well for us and our users, and that’s what counts.

current version works really well, many users have more than 1 computer

I understand what you are saying. I just feel like I’m paying for something that I’m not using nor will.

This isn’t about how calculating and or configurating DT prices. just an observation from those who don’t use a second seat. Discount student prices aren’t your big user based either but there is a discount for them

That user base is large enough that it rectifies a discount.

How will this work? if you buy now but it says the year starts now! will you guys fix the date when its finally release, the year starts from that date?

Also will V4 sync with iOS 16…DEVONthink To Go 3?

This was already answered in the Upgrader’s Guide blog post.

I get what the blog says. Below users says different thing. I guess I’m the only one who finds this confusing

Might want to add a note: “Ignore date of purchase, the date will start once the final product is out, will THEN reflect actual commencement of years update, on your account”
