When I write in the markdown editor in Devonthink I often find the position of the screen jumping up and down as I edit text. Jumps out of position if I use the arrow keys to move the cursor in the text and the make an edit. Suddenly I’m on top of the document again. Hope this makes sense.
Probably not the app (hunch). Is your keyboard or mouse acting up? Can you swap either or both of them as a test? Does a re-boot help? Do you have latest versions of macOS and DEVONthink?
If I quit and start Devonthink it works fine again, but then it starts happening again after some time. I’m not sure why. I’m using the latest DT4 Beta. I never had this issue with DT3.
DEVONthink 3 ≠ DEVONthink 4.
- What operating system are you running?
- Are you working in a main window or a document window?
- Are you working in fullscreen?
- Is it happening when typing at the bottom of the document or just anywhere in it?
Mac OS 15.5 (24F74)
Main Window
Not full screen
In the middle of it
I’ve restarted the computer and will check if it happens again.
I also had this issue, and it was resolved by restarting DT. I’ll see if it can be made to reoccur.
- What are your Settings > Files > Markdown options?
- What kind of content is in your Markdown document, e.g., blockquotes, images, etc.?
Screen captures of both would be good.
Thanks. Can you upload your stylesheet too, in case it’s involved?
I have the same issue.
Also, maybe associated, text in the edit and the preview windows don’t stay in sync. It is annoying, confusing and reduces productivity. Perhaps this is for another post.
It would be more helpful if you hold the Option key and select Help > Report Bug. We have no information to examine.

- Are you in fullscreen?
- Are you in Edit mode or Side-by-Side?
- Is this happening in or around any specific kind of content, e.g., in lists or by images or blockquotes?
And another question:
- Is typewriter mode switched on?
I was 100% just about to ask that!
Format > Typewriter-like scrolling or Settings > Editing > General > Typewriter-like scrolling.
Perhaps I found the source of the bug: when WYSIWIG images and links, is enabled, and one is moving around text using the arrow keys to move the cursor (or insertion point) within text, each press of the arrow key moves to the top of the document, a second press moves it back to the insertion point.
This mainly happens when the cursor is placed at the lower third of the screen (or when the top of the document is scrolled past the top frame of the screen.
This jumping also happens when selecting text that is located at the lower third of the screen, there is a jump to the top of the document.
When WYSIWIG images and links, is disabled, the jumping stops.
Thanks for the follow-up!
It lead me to another little bug… with a Markdown document open having plenty of text but no images or links, open the Markdown settings and repeatedly enable/disable WYSIWYG images & links. Do you see the Markdown content scrolling while you do that?
A screenshot of Settings > Editing > Format would be useful. And a document to reproduce this would be great too, thanks.
With Typewriter-like scrolling disabled, with a long document that has links, toggling WYSIWIG on/off only expands and contracts where there are links, but there is no jumping. With WYSIWIG on, selecting text causes a jump.
I am not allowed to upload .md documents to the Discourse. But I selected another document at random, with more than a page of text, and the same jumping action happens.
Also note, that when I select text (in edit/preview mode), it not only jumps (up) away from the selected text but I am also not able to see any text below the selection (after having scrolled down to the selected text). The only way to see text below the selection is to click on the preview side. After clicking the preview side and clicking back to the edit side, then I have the ability to continue scrolling. This is all with the WYSIWYG enabled.
