" Add mailbox" will it import the already imported mailbox again ? Or will it automatically put it in the correct folders and skip the already imported messages ?
The scripts do not skip already imported emails contrary to View > Sidebar > Import.
Maybe I’m a bit dumb but why so many options for importing e-mails ?
Can you suggest what for me is the best way if I once a week want to backup/update my complete e-mail box (including inbox, send and deleted messages) into DTPO so I have a good history ?
Scripts are also available in the Standard edition and can of course be customized by users.
Archiving complete mailbox(es) via View > Import > Sidebar is usually the easiest solution.
Thanks
I am confused. Tried the archiving with View-Sidebar-Import. All went to the specified Group in DT. After I removed all unwanted entries in DT, I started archiving again … and all the unwanted emails where there again.
The import skips only those emails which are part of the destination database and therefore adds all emails which are in the selected mailbox but not yet in the database.
Hello all,
Apologies for reviving something from 2020 — but this appears to be the most logical way to point to what I am referring to.
The much-used Script of @cgrunenberg “Add message(s) to DEVONTthink.scpt” appears to have stopped working, post my install of the DT4 beta (btw — instance purchase, and congratulations!!).
Is the application id
still “DNtp”? Or could there be something else wrong?
Still clinging to the legacy version of Outlook Version 16.95.3 (25032931)
, precisely for the huge benefit of my being able to export selected messages directly into DT, where the group selector is then triggered, allowing me to place the email in the necessary group/folder.
Is only DEVONthink 4 installed or also version 3? Does DEVONthink 4 have full disk acess and is allowed to automate Mail?
DT3 was zipped, and the app was deleted — as per the recommendations — so fairly certain I only have DT4 installed now.
It didn’t have Full Disk Access, and didn’t occur to me to check (after making the switch from DT3 to DT4) — have added it now, and restarted DT4.
I am unsure on where to set things, to allow it to automate Mail/Outlook? This might not be active presently/anymore? Could you please point me to where I need to go and check?
As an aside — use Fastscripts to activate the script, with a global keyboard shortcut that activates it. I can see inside of Fastscripts that it is being “triggered” (since it appears under the “recent” menubar), but nothing appears to be happening in the background.
EDIT/Update:
Ok. Something is happening. The mails are being directed to the Global Inbox.
I simply hadn’t noticed them there, but stumbled across when I checked my “Added today” smart folder.
So, appears that the Group Selector (that pops up to ask where to place the message) is no longer automatically triggering like it used to?
Does that help narrow things down? Apologies for missing that!

And have you checked the Files > Import > Destination setting? It’s no different from version 3.
See Settings > Files > Import > Destination
@cgrunenberg @BLUEFROG — that was it.
Obviously(?) the setting had returned to its “default” with the installation of DT4.
So, much ado about nothing, it seems. Thanks for the quick assistance — very relieved that this is working again!
You’re welcome, glad it’s working as expected again.
