I am currently running DEVONthink 4.1.1, Tahoe and Safari 26.2. The Clip To DEVONthink extension in Safari keeps disappearing from my installed extensions and is not available. Closing Safari, re-installing DEVONthink, then opening Safari re-installs the extension and once enabled it works fine for several days, then disappears again. I have work-arounds but this is becoming frustrating. I believe this all started when I upgraded to Tahoe, but I am not sure exactly when. I have not installed any new apps or extensions that should interfere with this. Any thoughts about why this happens and how to fix it? All other aspects of DT work as they are supposed to. It would be a major nuisance for me to switch to Firefox where the Clip to DEVONthink extension seems more stable, so that is not an option for me.
It’s a good idea to search the forum. There is an extensive thread here:
And a more recent one here:
Thanks. Did search first but did not use the exact terms “clipper” and “safari extension”. I used “clip to DEVONthink” and variations thereof with or without “extension” in there. Anyway, at least it’s good to know this is not a problem unique to me. The re-install fix has worked for me recently but it is not worth the effort - there are other ways to capture the information from Safari. I guess I will just wait until Devon software engineers fix it with or (probably) without help from Apple.
This happens in just the same way for me, and it’s a massive inconvenience. I hope it gets fixed soon.
kinda up to Apple, sadly. Read the threads here.
I was hoping the 4.2 release would have addressed this issue but I can confirm that it is still happening. That said I’ve gotten used to running the terminal command to restore:
pluginkit -a “/Applications/DEVONthink.app/Contents/PlugIns/Clip to DEVONthink.appex”
pluginkit -e use -i com.devon-technologies.think.clipper
I tried that script and it worked the first time. So nicely, in fact, that I created a shortcut closing the two apps, running the script then opening the two apps in the right sequence. After I did that, it never worked again. I have to re-install DT each time. I’ve (reluctantly) learned to live without it. Disappointed to hear that it wasn’t fixed.
There is nothing in the release notes indicating it is fixed.
I have to re-install DT each time.
No you don’t. As I’ve already mentioned several times, the browser extension is not required. In fact, I have pointed many people to set a hotkey in the Sorter preferences and they have all agreed it feels much faster to clip now.
