Been using DT4 for several days now. Faster, smarter, less UX friction. Very intrigued by the AI implementation and still learning. Happy with all the small smart things added all over. Help and Manual are great - kudos!

Definitely unfair. If I stop paying for Netflix etc, I am cut off from their service. If I don’t update DT next year, it carries on working until the Apple gods smite it with a thunderbolt, which might be years away.
Does the “very little” include the time to grow the plant, harvest the beans, sort and select, pack, roast, transport into destination country, repack, ship to coffee shop, rent and other business costs of maintaining the shop and its machinery, wages for everyone along the chain and some level of profit for the grower, harvester, shippers, local supplier and coffee shop?.
The price of a cup of coffee is not based on the cost of the beans - it’s based on the cost of turning the bean into a flat white and serving it to a customer.

I agree. So confident was I in the product and the team behind it that I just went ahead and bought DT4. DT has been central to my work for about 8 years so it was no brainer for me. BUT, I’ve now uninstalled DT4 and gone back to DT3. Until the font issue is fixed it’s not really useable for me - to hard on my 71 year-old eyes. I still love the product and the team behind it, who are always so responsive to my queries, even when my problems are the result of my own stupid mistakes. So until DT4 has decent sized fonts I’ll go back to DT3.
Which font issue? In the chat assistant?

The new font being used by DT4 - it’s very small and I can find no way of increasing it. The suggestion was to increase screen resolution, but that affects every app and DT4 is the only app where I have a problem. It is quite possible that there is a way of increasing the DT4 font size but I don’t know how.
It’s not clear where you want to increase the font size. There are always the global preferences:
where you can set font size for the sidebar and the display of documents.
Used where? In the item list, the sidebar, in certain documents? The default fonts of version 3 & 4 are actually identical.

where can I find the release notes oft DT4 beta2 online?
I don’t think beta2 released yet, but I may be wrong.
You can probably start here for beta1 (which I found quickly with a Google Search):
and the full DEVONthink Manual for this release also on the DEVONtechnologies web site which has a whole section of release notes in the chapter called “READ ME”.
I hope/wonder if DT4 will include the ability to sort files within a database by hand (under ‘Unsorted’ setting) and have this order sync to another device?
This is a desperately needed feature for me, and I know for a good number of others too. I understand that there are many different preferences in how people like to order their files, as well as workarounds (e.g. starting file names with numbers, etc) and that might suit some people well. For others, like me, we really would like to also be able to drag a changed order of files, sync and see that matched on another computer. I use a number of other apps with different functions and they all allow me to order and have that sync across as many devices as I like.
I don’t pretend to have deep knowledge of technical matters and know that DT is quite a complex piece of software under the hood - and we all really love this dependability & appreciate the team behind it very much. But PLEASE can we see this ability to sync manual file ordering? I’m excited by DT4 in general, of course, but this one feature is the only thing I really need to launch it into the stratosphere!
It’s planned for future releases but it won’t be version 4.0, I’m sorry.

I’m also hoping that with DT4 this feature will be taken into consideration and will be released.
It is so ESSENTIAL to be able to “manually order” your files in an app that is intended to organize files, and to be able to find the same order on all the other synced apps on other devices (DTTG, in our case).
I can’t believe that such a feature is not given enough importance: we’re talking about letting the User decide how to order his/her files and find that order across devices.
The fundamentals of any app that “organizes” files should be:
- Ability to create “Folders”
- Ability to “Manually Order” folders and files (not only alphabetically and other automatic sorting)
- Ability to “Search”
If it misses one of those “fundamental” features, an app is weak.
All the other features with Automations, AI, and stuff like that are just fancy stuff on a weak structure, if the app misses those basic features.
Yeah, let’s hope.
I’m also using DT every day for years, and it’s so painful for me not being able to find my sorting in DTTG. It pushes me to go look for alternative apps, and I don’t even want to start all over with another app.
So, again, I just hope we’ll be heard, and that other people will step out asking for this.
Well, that’s such good news! I hope it will be in early updates of DT4, not too late.

But, we’re talking about making the Manual Order syncable in DTTG as well, right? It just occured to me that the feature would be only device-to-device as for Mac-to-Mac. I hope I’m wrong and DTTG is in not kept out of the device-to-device idea, here.
