I’ve the impression that the planets aren’t aligned anymore, since a couple of weeks.
The Safari extension on Tahoe keeps disappearing. Switching to Edge didn’t work because the browser freezes continuously after waking up my MacBook Pro from sleep (crap). Additionally, the Chrome extension has stopped printing pages to PDF (both options) and saves everything as a bookmark.
I found the same issue discussed in 2013, but there was no substantial solution other than rebooting. This doesn’t address the actual problem.
Has anyone experienced this problem recently and found a solution?
Thank you for sharing that link. I used it in the past and couldn’t find it again. Eventually, the extension reappeared, but it doesn’t seem to be happy in its new location. I’ve lost it several times.
The hack works, but it’s becoming quite annoying. I hope Apple will eventually resolve this issue.
The problem isn’t completely solved, but it’s been somewhat mitigated.
Yes, it is annoying. On my machine sometimes the Safari extension works and sometimes it doesn’t. But the Sorter always works. Here are my settings for the Sorter. (Instead of clicking Save when the Sorter appears, press CMD-S ) When your muscle memory becomes strong enough you can set Appearance as None if you like.
The CLI-based workaround I found elsewhere on this forum has reached its limits.
Whenever the DEVONthink extension disappears from Safari, I run the following commands:
pluginkit -a "/Applications/DEVONthink.app/Contents/PlugIns/Clip to DEVONthink.appex"
pluginkit -e use -i com.devon-technologies.think.clipper
I even built a small Automator app to trigger them instantly.
Unfortunately, Safari has become practically unusable, as the extension vanishes multiple times per hour. I genuinely want to like this browser, but this issue is becoming increasingly frustrating.
Posting this here for reference. I’ll switch to another browser; I can’t afford to spend my time constantly debugging Safari.
Did you try using the Sorter to clip, like @bjornivarsson suggested? I’ve used that instead of the extension for a long time. It works no matter what browser I’m in.
I had forgotten about that. Indeed. But I’m also experiencing compatibility issues with Safarie and websites. Safari simply freezes or becomes unresponsive on those sites.
I’ll address that issue later when I finish the task at hand.
I set up the sorter as @bjornivarsson suggested. The “show as menu” doesn’t seem to produce any results, but the “show as dock tab” works like a charm. It is indeed convenient and fits perfectly in my workflow.
It took me some time to arrive at this point. Thank you @bjornivarsson ! Thank you all!!
@cgrunenberg directed me to this solution. The Show as Menu Extra gives you a way to access the sorter via the menu bar at the top of the screen. Show as Dock Tab is another way to access the sorter. I have grown used to my hotkey combination so I don’t need the menu extra or dock tab anymore This set up works great for me and it’s great to hear that it seems to work for you as well.
