Reinstall Safari Extension

So you did, Jim. Thanks. Have tried them.

So far a download and replacement of in /Applications seems to be working.

And does 4.1.1 fix this particular bug, please?

Good luck!

There was a modification in the 4.1.1 code that we hope will keep Tahoe from unceremoniously evicting our extensions.

Thanks, Jim. Tahoe should know better than to mess with your team  .

Your help much appreciated - as always!

You’re welcome!
A machine reboot after the update may be helpful as well.

FTR - in the hope that it’s useful - I have 4.1.1 installed (via DTP’s own update procedure) and have rebooted my M4 Studio 26.0.1.

Now, unfortunately, the extension does not appear in Settings > Extensions… alas, 4.1.1 does not seem to have fixed it.

Do you think that - with 4.1.1 - a download and replacement in /Applications is worth trying, please?

Or a log that I could consult and post (here) to help?

Downloaded 4.1.1 installer and installed as per advice, rebooted machine … no sign of DT extension, or anything Devonthink in the share sheet…

No problem, I thought: I prefer Obsidian’s Markdown clipper anyway, and DT indexes my Obsidian clippings folder … but indexing seems to have halted too. I have files in the Finder that are not showing up in their indexed folder in DT. That link seems to have been cut somewhere.

Just checked: FWIW my Obsidian indexes all present and correct.

Unfortunately the Safari extension is missing again.

  • Rebooted my machine.
  • Opened Safari and the extension was still showing and active.
  • Opened DT 4.1.1
  • The Safari extension disappeared from the tool bar and it is no longer listed under Safari extension in the Safari settings.

It’s unfortunately one of the many glitches of Tahoe and DEVONthink 4.1.1 just includes a workaround to explicitly reregister the extensions each time a new version of the app or of macOS is used.

A reboot might actually break it again as, see above, the workaround is not applied in this case.

Safari’s extension handling has been always very shaky but on Tahoe it’s definitely worse so far. Is the Sharing extension still available in the system settings?

Only the spotlight extension is available.

  1. Quit both DEVONthink and Safari
  2. Enter this command in the Terminal.app:
defaults delete com.devon-technologies.think LSRegisterVersion
  1. Launch DEVONthink, then Safari

Which extensions are now available in the system settings and in Safari?

These steps brought the extensions back. Now Quicklook, Spotlight, and Sharing extensions are available. I will soon do a reboot and update you what happens then.

Thank you! Most likely Tahoe will have another another amnesia and won’t remember them :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

This time it worked fine. Rebooting, opening DT, then opening Safari. The sharing extension in Safari is still available. After the next reboot I will open Safari first and then DT and see if that messes things up.

Everything restored.

Thanks Christian. No go in my case*.*

DEVONthink Extension available in System Settings > Extensions.

But does not appear as installed in Safari.

In Safari’s Settings > Extensions, correct?

Correct. In the Installed ‘sidebar’…

If it helps, I’ve had behaviours very similar, or identical, to other posters here: alternating ‘present’ and ‘absent’.

Thanks for pursuing this!

And thanks for clarifying.

@cgrunenberg @BLUEFROG The Safari extension is still working after another reboot. This time I started Safari first and then DT. One thing I noticed is that the button has moved from the left of the URL bar (where I want it) to the right. This is of course not really important but just strange.
