Reinstall Safari Extension

That’s not controlled by the extension and depends on the toolbar customization (and Safari’s defaults).

That’s what I suspected.

Is the order of launching known to be important, @cgrunenberg, please?

I can’t make it work either way. The Extension does not show at all in Safari’s settings.

TIA… .

I don’t think so. On my MacBook the extension is gone again. It survived two or three reboots but not this one.

Suppose that this might all get sorted when Apple releases a future macOS that sorts these things? After all this by DEVONthink developers, wondering how much more they can do at this juncture…

I don’t know, but I suspect that Tahoe is the main culprit.

It is. Either it should always work (because our extension is fine) or never (because it’s broken) but this is just… well, no comment  Anyway, the easiest workaround is to set up a hotkey in Settings > Sorter as the extension is not really required, see the various other alternatives already mentioned.

It is strange that the extension seems to work fine for some but not for others. Kind of reminds me of a forgotten initialization of a variable in code that I produced many years ago. The code worked fine on my computer, but when I proudly presented it to my boss and he ran the code on his, it failed miserably.

Ugh! Been there, done that :slightly_smiling_face:

but why do other extensions not disappear from safari, e.g. 1password etc.

This is unknown at this time. Also, these apps are all independently developed so the behavior of one isn’t an indicator of the behavior of another.

Understood. But couldn’t this be some sort of (time- or environment-sensitive) contention between Extensions?

If appropriate to explore this, I’d happily supply a list of those I use; and let’s see if all of those of us experiencing the bug have an extension in common  !

Kind of - possibly - related, on iOS 26 the Readdle ScannerPro widget (which I used to scan receipts going into DT) on the lock screen disappears also (ir)regularly. A few things that need to settle with further OS updates, I guess.

Is the Sorter intended to stay in the menu bar?

I can only get it to show when DTP 4.1.1 is already launched - which is no hardship… just want to know that I’m getting the best from it.

The Sorter is only available while DEVONthink is running, its appearance can be changed via Settings > Sorter (either menu extra, tab or none).

Thank you, Christian!

That works. I’ll use that method until - hopefully - a new release of macOS 26 arrives and fixes the bug.

Your work much appreciated .

For those that miss the sharing of items from Reeder to DT (that extension seems to rely on the Safari extension) make sure you have a shortcut for opening the entries in Safari. After this one can use the sorter approach. I usually go through my inbox in Reeder then switch to Safari and send the open tabs one by one to DT.

I just ran into losing the DT Safari Extension a few days ago after I got a warning that the extension was using 5GB of memory. I was wrapping up for the day so put it off. I have DT plug-in working in other browsers and I also use DevonAgent Pro (often to get better PDF captures for signed in publications).

This morning I had free time and came looking here. This terminal solution worked well.

The memory hogging still is a concern (ran into that with the Sorter and have turned that off).

A screen capture of this would be useful.

After updating to the latest version of Tahoe the extension has now hung around after one reboot. Safe to Tahoe now that is is .1? - #8 by bjornivarsson

Edit: For me no luck. The extension is gone again. After reboot it worked but then all of a sudden it disappeared.

Edit # 2: And now it’s back :joy: No reboot done between first entry and Edit and no reboot between Edit and Edit 2.
